On August 17th, near Sayanogorsk in south central Russia, a catastrophic accident took place in the turbine and transformer rooms of the hydroelectric plant of the Sayano-Shushenskaya dam caused (maybe) by a tremendous amount of water from the Yenisei River flooded the turbine room, causing at least one transformer explosion and extensive damage to all ten turbines, destroying at least three of them. 74 workers are known to have lost their lives in the accident. Additionally, 40 tons of transformer oil were spilled into the river, killing an estimated 400 tons of trout in two fisheries.

seorang budak berusaha untuk membiayai kos rawatan kanser

Berkat kreativitinya, seorang budak 5 tahun berjaya membiayai sendiri perubatan kanser yang dideritanya. Hanya dengan menjual lukisan raksasa khayalannya sendiri, Dia tidak perlu menggantungkan diri pada belas kasihan para penderma. Pada 13 September 2010, kanak-kanak bernama Aidan Reen ini didiagnosis mengidap acute lymphoblastic leukaemia yakni sejenis kanser ganas yang menyerang sumsum tulang belakang. Meskipun peluang untuk sembuh hanya 90 persen, terapinya sangat sulit dan perlu kos yang banyak.

Aidan kanak-kanak yang baru berusia 5 tahun ini melukis untuk biaya perubatan kanser yang dideritanya.   Diagnosis itu langsung membuat orangtuanya, Katie dan Wiley Reed gelabah kerana keduanya hanyalah keluarga sederhana yang tinggal di Kansas City.

Mujurlah selama ini Aidan mempunyai hobi melukis dan bakat itu diketahui oleh Mandi Ostein, kakak perempuan Aidan. Mandi yang berusia 26 tahun lantas berfikir untuk memanfaatkan hobi Aidan agar tidak terlalu bergantung pada belas kasihan para penderma.

Akhirnya sejak saat itu, Aidan makin produktif menggambar dan hampir semua gambar yang ia lukis adalah gambar raksasa.

Menurut pengakuannya sendiri, Aidan agak obses kepada objek yang seram dan menakutkan.

Pada awalnya Mandi memang hanya ingin mencari wang tambahan untuk membiayai kos perubatan, namun siapa sangka hasil penjualan gambar lukisan Aidan justru boleh menampung seluruh biaya perubatan. Dari sekitar 3,000 gambar yang dijual, ia berjaya mengumpulkan US$ 30.000 .

Berkat usahanya itu, proses terapi berjalan tanpa hambatan dan kini keadaan Aidan sudah jauh lebih baik.
